We spent the afternoon with Eddie Joe on a visit to his working farm in Ireland learning about the animals and crops and peat bogs, and with his neighbour learning about sheep and sheep herding. We were actually mucking about in the fields with them, had tea and felt like part of the family. It was such a rare and unique Irish experience! A huge highlight of our visit to Ireland was the last day of our tour, when we spent the day at Ireland West Luxury Farm Stay in Co. Mayo. We spent the morning on the farm, visiting with animals and then learning about the peat bog on a tour of the Irish farm. We even got to cut peat and stack it to dry. Then we spent time with a blacksmith (Patrick at 9ironscraft) who made a fireplace poker with our sons, and then a 9 irons amulet with all of us shaping some of the pieces. Finally we had an Irish farm tour and tasting with the local cheese maker-all in all a really wonderful final day.
